A Mediterranean pergola is an ideal compliment to the Texas landscape. Native Texas plants in large oversized pots enhance the Mediterranean look and attract birds and butterflies.

Garden Decorating Accessories

Cast iron, wrought iron, ceramic and terra cotta garden accents are specialties at Accents of Salado. Create magic in outdoor entertaining areas and at the same time provide much needed water and food sources for birds and butterflies in your landscape designs.
THE MEDITERRANEAN PERGOLA

A Mediterranean pergola is traditionally a covered walkway but the term also refers to a heavy open-beamed structure used for dining and entertaining.

(LEFT)  The iron fence panels between each pergola column enclose a section of the natural stone terrace to create an outdoor room. Large oversized planters, iron decorating accessories and the natural stone hardscape enhance the Mediterranean look.

The space defined by a Mediterranean style pergola is an ideal setting for family downtime and is a perfect entertaining expansion when hosting guests and extended family gatherings.

Butterfly Gardens       Hummingbird Gardens
Hummingbird Gardens and Butterfly Gardens

Hummingbirds are attracted to spring and summer flowers by color and not fragrance. The hummingbirds' favorite Texas flowers and flowering vines are zinnia, iris, trumpet vine and honeysuckle.

Butterflies are most abundant from spring through fall. Blooming spring and summer flowers that are excellent nectar sources are white mist flower, blue mist flower, salvia greggi, lantana, scarlet sage, Indigo spires sage, orange butterfly weed, and Mexican mint marigold. Trees and bushes include Mexican plum, Texas mountain laurel, Texas persimmon and hackberry. Common dill and parsley will attract certain species of butterflies and many varieties of passion vine are excellent choices.

Selecting a Birdbath
When choosing a birdbath, select one with a shallow dish. Birds prefer wading to swimming and will frequent the bath more often when they can stand on the bottom. If you have a deep birdbath, try placing a rock near the edge of the bowl just under the water level.

Hydrograss Landscape Grasses for Texas
Hydroseeding and Hydromulch

In 2006 Accents of Salado built a new online shipping/retial center at 3366 FM2484. With large areas to landscape, we chose to hydroseed a large space between our buildings and the highway.

Four different grasses, Common Bermuda, Centipede, Buffalo and Zoysia were planted.

The pictures left and above demonstrate how rapicdly the hydroseeded area developed into a lush, golf-course type landscape.

We can highly recommend the work of Southwest Hydromulch hydroseeding company. Their office is now located in our retail complex.
